The opened book is merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers' sales branches and offices, NAICS 42. Adjusted sales are in millions of dollars, not adjusted for price changes, and benchmarked to the Annual Integrated Economic Survey. The workbook runs through August 2026. September 2026 is not in the file. The source line is the Monthly Wholesale Trade Survey, October 26, 2026.

August merchant-wholesaler sales were 815,595 million dollars. Durable-goods sales were 418,849 million dollars and nondurable-goods sales were 396,746 million dollars. Calculated from those sales and the total, durable goods were 51.4 percent and nondurable goods were 48.6 percent.

Grocery, petroleum, and farm-product wholesale are large continuing books inside that total. Grocery sales were 81,805 million dollars, petroleum sales were 92,301 million dollars, and farm-product sales were 24,294 million dollars. Calculated shares of August sales are grocery 10.0 percent, petroleum 11.3 percent, and farm products 3.0 percent. Drugs were 118,422 million dollars, a calculated 14.5 percent. Apparel was 13,659 million dollars, a calculated 1.7 percent. Household appliances and electrical and electronic goods were 108,724 million dollars, a calculated 13.3 percent.

China-origin exposure in this industry is an inbound constraint on durable-goods and apparel wholesale, not a wholesale-sales share. Calculated from the end-use table, China supplied 27.6 percent of apparel, textiles, nonwool or cotton imports. The same table gives China 48.4 percent of toys, games, and sporting goods, 36.1 percent of cell phones and other household goods, 28.4 percent of household appliances, and 21.7 percent of furniture and household goods.

Grocery, petroleum, and drug wholesale do not have that China inbound share. Calculated from the end-use table, China supplied 3.5 percent of other-foods imports, 2.7 percent of pharmaceutical-preparations imports, 0.4 percent of other petroleum-product imports, and 0.03 percent of meat-product imports. The China crude-oil cell is 25,920 dollars against a world total of 139,989,673,819 dollars. That cell is not relabeled as a zero share.

Taiwan exposure is an electronics inbound constraint. Calculated from the end-use table, Taiwan supplied 33.1 percent of U.S. computer imports. Taiwan also supplied 42.2 percent of computer-accessory imports and 23.3 percent of semiconductor imports. Those shares are general imports by end use. They are not merchant-wholesale sales.

The short-horizon sales analog is one month. May sales were 814,239 million dollars and June sales were 795,090 million dollars. Merchant-wholesaler sales fell 2.4 percent from May to June. The 2.4 percent figure is calculated from those two months. It is not a year-over-year peak.

Enterprise exposure is a large wholesaler's sales, inventory, and receivable. United Natural Foods fiscal 2026 net sales were 31,152 million dollars, inventories net were 1,946 million dollars, and customer accounts receivable were 889 million dollars. On June 5, 2025 the company took certain systems offline and temporarily lost the ability to fulfill and distribute customer orders.

A China trade stop removes the inbound refill for lines where China is a large end-use source. China apparel, textiles, nonwool or cotton imports were 13,972,777,789 dollars and the world total was 50,608,731,373 dollars. China toys were 19,353,331,006 dollars against 40,008,205,492 dollars. China cell phones and other household goods were 39,302,587,858 dollars against 108,830,048,517 dollars. China household appliances were 10,400,167,537 dollars against 36,625,905,275 dollars. China furniture was 8,195,408,833 dollars against 37,831,928,088 dollars. China footwear was 5,459,609,119 dollars against 17,733,535,446 dollars. The calculated shares are 27.6, 48.4, 36.1, 28.4, 21.7, and 30.8 percent.

A Taiwan slowdown removes a different inbound refill. Taiwan computer imports were 72,296,684,017 dollars against a world total of 218,216,864,616 dollars. Taiwan computer accessories were 60,548,493,629 dollars against 143,348,243,286 dollars. Taiwan semiconductors were 17,723,734,448 dollars against 76,045,636,881 dollars. Taiwan telecommunications equipment was 9,801,046,615 dollars against 114,662,646,434 dollars. The calculated shares are 33.1, 42.2, 23.3, and 8.5 percent. China computer imports were 9,707,452,494 dollars, a calculated 4.4 percent of the same computer total, so the computer inbound constraint is Taiwan, not China.

Grocery, farm, and petroleum wholesale keep a domestic sales book. August grocery sales were 81,805 million dollars, farm-product sales were 24,294 million dollars, and petroleum sales were 92,301 million dollars. China other foods were 893,696,772 dollars against 25,747,016,348 dollars, a calculated 3.5 percent. China meat products were 7,295,805 dollars against 22,249,431,600 dollars, a calculated 0.03 percent. China other petroleum products were 121,611,584 dollars against 34,226,394,870 dollars, a calculated 0.4 percent.

Drug wholesale sales were 118,422 million dollars in August, with inventories of 110,056 million dollars and an inventories-to-sales ratio of 0.93. China pharmaceutical preparations were 7,754,167,685 dollars against 287,515,296,211 dollars, a calculated 2.7 percent. Taiwan pharmaceutical preparations were 602,117,731 dollars, a calculated 0.2 percent of that world total. The medicine story in week one is the cold chain, not the China trade share.

The week-one operating break inside the wholesaler is electronic ordering. On June 5, 2025 United Natural Foods became aware of unauthorized activity, activated its incident response plan, and proactively took certain systems offline, which temporarily impacted the ability to fulfill and distribute customer orders. The company implemented workarounds to continue servicing customers where possible.

Collections are the same stack as the order. The June 21, 2025 report says the core systems used for electronic ordering and invoicing had been restored and operations had normalized, after reduced sales volume and increased operational costs in the weeks following the incident. A receivable that cannot be invoiced is a trade-credit event even when the goods are already in the warehouse.
